Summer is finally here and in full swing! School is long gone, and if you haven’t gotten around to it, then it’s definitely time to make some plans for all those endless hours your kids will need to be entertained during June and July. Summer camps are a great way to keep them active, engaged, and having fun while school is out, so we’ve compiled a list of last minute Summer Camp sign-ups. Bonus: they give you some alone time to sit by the pool, grab an iced coffee, or even tackle that load of wet swimsuits and towels you have been avoiding, if you are into that kind of thing!

Summer Camps at the Kroc Center

With camps running weekly through June and July, the Kroc Center is a fantastic summertime resource. They maintain a small staff-to-camper ratio, and their counselors are dedicated to building confidence in each camper who attends. There is a Kinder Camp for younger kids in the 4-6 year old age range, and one for children who are 7-12 years old, to keep the camp activities relevant and engrossing. Whether you have a Little Inventor, a MythBuster, an athlete, or a rock star, the Kroc Center camps have got you covered!
YMCA Summer Camps
June 4 – August 10
Various locations across Memphis
Built around a different theme and field trip every week, YMCA summer camps are available for kids from 5-15, and provide unique experiences with an emphasis on connecting and making meaningful friendships. While there is plenty of free play and traditional summer activities like swimming, these camps are also an opportunity for your young child or teen to learn new skills and try new hobbies, as well as explore diversity, leadership, and improved relationships.

Shelby Farms Park is a family favorite in Memphis, and much like the park itself, their summer camp offerings do not disappoint! The Nature Camp and Adventure Camp keep kids moving with nature hikes, archery, water recreation, fitness classes and environmental education sessions tailored to a camper’s age group. The Equestrian Camp offers several options for beginners with one session for advanced riders. These camps at Shelby Farms Park encourage children to explore and discover the world around them in fun and inspired ways. Campers of all ages learn about local wildlife, watersheds, and food systems through innovative, hands-on activities. The price includes a nutritious lunch and healthy snacks, as well as a lifeguard on duty during any water activities and CPR certified counselors.

Wondering how to keep your resident rock star occupied this summer? School of Rock Memphis offers a comprehensive camp experience for both beginners and more advanced musicians that is designed to improve their confidence and skills in ensemble music performances. Campers learn and play in a creative environment that focuses on how much fun it can be to hang out and jam as well as perform. Both camps will cover:
- learning the ins and outs of live performance
- rehearsal time in a real studio
- instruction from music professionals
- the basics of music theory
- Rock & Roll music appreciation
- interacting with other young musicians
- a live rock show performance for friends and family
School of Rock has divided their summer camps based on age and skill level. The Rock 101 Camp is designed for beginning musicians ages 8-12. Campers will choose a primary instrument for the week, but no prior experience on that instrument is necessary. This camp focuses on the FUNdamentals of rock’n’roll and ends with a live performance by the campers on Friday afternoon. The Performance Boot Camp is designed for intermediate to advanced musicians aged 10-17. These campers will need to have some proficiency on their chosen instrument, and they will jump right in to a band rehearsal environment. After rehearsing and performing with each other all week, campers will meet off-site at an actual Memphis music venue to perform a live show! This is the perfect opportunity for kids who love making music and want to get a little real-life performing under their belt this summer.
