NEW Jerry’s Sno Cones location

Sno Cones | Memphis, TN | Jerry's

1601 Bonnie Ln.
Cordova, Tennessee 38016

While Jerry’s itself may be a longtime local favorite, this year brought our city a SECOND location in Cordova. The new building has the same iconic style but is an “L” shape that features a drive-thru with an inside area to sit and eat. They have added breakfast foods like homemade biscuits, meats, gravy, and tater tots to the menu, but will still have traditional Jerry’s menu items. They have even added new snow cone flavors, though the Wedding Cake Supreme still continues to be the star of the show. The original Jerry’s serves thousands of people each week, and the new location is catching up to them fast. Although you can almost always expect a wait, it is worth it to experience this unique Memphis landmark.

Railgarten

Railgarten | Memphis, TN | Outdoor restaurant and venue

2166 Central Ave.
Memphis, Tennessee 38104

Railgarten is a really weird, really cool collection of buildings set on 1.5 acres on what used to be a Midtown railroad substation. The buildings are comprised of an ice cream parlor, a diner, a “ping-pong emporium” and a Tiki bar. There is also an outdoor stage, a sand volleyball court, a kickball field, a family-friendly picnic area and playground, and a tire swing. See? Weird, but cool. You can eat indoors or take your burger and ice cream outdoors, where you will find a ton of lawn chairs and even some hammocks set up for maximum relaxing. Kids and pets are welcome, and it is not unusual to see both in large numbers on any given summer evening. The food is mostly classic American cuisine but with a dash of international influence, something seen with menu items like the Korean Crispy Chicken Sandwich and the Duck Fat Sriracha Fries. No need to worry about little ones with simpler tastes, though – the kid’s menu features staples like chicken tenders, hot dogs, and grilled cheese.

Crosstown Concourse

Crosstown Concourse | Saddle Creek Orthodontics | Memphis, TN

1350 Concourse Ave.

If you have not yet visited the Crosstown Concourse, you are missing out on one of the most vibrant new offerings in the city. Having repurposed the of the Sears distribution center downtown, the Concourse is a “mixed-use vertical urban village,” and includes restaurants, retail, a small grocery store, a fitness center and health clinics, a charter high school, a contemporary art center, commercial offices, and 265 loft-style apartments. That is a mouthful!

Among the places to eat, you will find popular offerings like MemPops and new discoveries, such as Area 51 Ice Cream, which has some of the most delicious flavors around. There is so much to see that it is hard to do it all in one trip, but it is spacious, there is something to look at on every level, and it is a great place to go to teach your kids about Memphis history while letting them run around and explore. If you enjoy photography, this rustic building has some amazing photo ops, too.
