Like any other first in life, your initial orthodontic visit can seem a little intimidating. 😨 Here at Saddle Creek Orthodontics, we believe that your first visit with us is also the most important one! This is our chance to get acquainted with each other, and for you to learn about all the treatments and services we offer. On the surface, we may look similar to any dental or orthodontic office, but what we do here is unique. It all begins with your very first orthodontic appointment with SCO, so let’s take a look at what you can expect when you step through our door!
Let’s Get Started!
Upon your arrival at our Collierville, Germantown, or our new Midtown location, you’ll be warmly welcomed by our team. After being introduced to Dr. Fagala, you’ll be shown around the office so you can see where the magic happens! Our orthodontic treatment coordinator will then take some digital photographs of your teeth, plus panoramic and cephalometric x-rays. We need these images in order to visualize your teeth, jaws, and facial soft tissue. Besides getting to know you, one of the most important parts of this initial evaluation is determining what type of treatment is necessary to correct any problems we find, and when the best time to begin would be. These photographs and x-rays allow us to see what’s happening beneath the surface of the gums, such as the position and growth of the bones and joints. This will also show us any teeth that are still below the gum line.
After reviewing these images, Dr. Fagala will join you in a private consultation room to discuss any specific areas of concern. He may ask you some questions, such as if your jaws make any noise when your mouth opens or closes, or if you’ve been having any problems chewing or swallowing. You’ll then be shown an individualized and unique treatment plan, and Dr. Fagala will demonstrate the correction that can be expected by showing you photos and videos of similar cases. Depending on the developmental stage of your teeth and jaws, you may be advised to begin treatment right away, or to schedule periodic check-ups until we can determine the best time to start treatment.
We love informed patients, and our goal is to be sure that no question goes unanswered at any point in your orthodontic journey. That begins by taking as much time as necessary to answer your questions when discussing what method of treatment is best for you. Dr. Fagala and our Treatment Coordinator will walk you through the process, going over everything from scheduling adjustment appointments to when you can expect treatment to finish, and just about everything in between!
What Happens Next?
If we do find that there are issues needing correction during your initial evaluation with us, we will recommend orthodontic treatment. Whether you’re advised to begin treatment now or later, this is the best time for you to ask any questions you have about the whole process. Dr. Fagala will go over all of the available treatment options for you, talk to you about what to expect at different stages of the treatment process, and touch on a variety of topics, such as
- How orthodontic treatment will benefit you
- What treatment options are available to help correct your specific problem
- Whether treatment is indicated now, or if you should hold off for a while
- How much treatment is likely to cost
- Available payment plans and financing options
- How long we expect your treatment to take
Once we have a treatment plan mapped out, we’ll go over all the fees associated with it. Every patient we see has specific needs and desired outcomes, and as such, the cost of treatment will vary on a case-by-case basis.
