The decision to get braces is a decision that many weigh heavily. Factors such as time, cost and overall appearance come into play. Many people, ranging from teens to older adults feel they need braces, however aren’t comfortable with the look of braces from the past.

Fortunately, today’s orthodontic solutions offer a variety of aesthetic options, which allow people of any age to feel comfortable with their appearance while simultaneously straightening their teeth. Short version: you don’t necessarily need metal railroad track braces to get a beautiful, straight smile.

Are you looking for a minimalist look? Want to show off your braces loud and proud? Our office offers several choices to find the right fit for you.

Metal Braces

This is the most common type of braces, and have been used for over 100 years! They are small brackets that adhere directly to each tooth and are secured using tiny rubber bands, which come in a variety of colors. These are a great choice for both children and adults, and best of all, they are smaller and more comfortable than they’ve ever been.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces work much like metal braces; they adhere to each tooth and are secured and tied with clear (or colored) rubber bands. These braces are also known as clear braces, tooth-colored braces, aesthetic braces, or porcelain braces and are less noticeable than dark colored metal braces. I have several friends on social media with ceramic braces, and in most photos, no one can see them at all.

Invisalign

This option moves away from the bracket and tie system, and is made of a series of clear plastic trays that gradually straighten teeth and are nearly invisible to the eye. Patients can eat and drink whatever they want and the trays can be removed for special occasions. Invisalign also allows makes it easier to keep your teeth clean versus other options. This isn’t the best solution for all ortho treatments, but great for those who are looking for an aesthetically pleasing option.

WildSmiles Braces

For the wild at heart, these braces offer a fun solution for getting your teeth straight. They come in a variety of fun shapes like stars, hearts, and even footballs to broaden the appeal of braces to younger children or fun-loving adults. You can also choose colors with this option!

Lingual Braces

The most advanced option for braces are Lingual braces, also known as Incognito braces or hidden braces. These braces fit on the inside of the teeth and are completely invisible from the outside. Like Invisalign, lingual braces may not be the best treatment solution for everyone, but do offer an advanced, aesthetically-ideal option for several patients.

These different types of braces have come a long way from the world of orthodontics even a few years ago. Here at Saddle Creek Orthodontics, we pride ourselves on offering the best Memphis Orthodontics experience and work hard to ensure a customized plan for each of our patients.
