How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that involves uses a series of smooth, clear, removable retainers (called aligners) that gradually straighten your teeth, without the metal or wires of traditional braces. After we have determined that Invisalign is the right treatment choice for a particular patient, we will take detailed impressions of the teeth.

Next, Dr. Fagala and an Invisalign lab technician use those impressions to make a 3D image of the patient’s teeth and map the patient's complete treatment from start to finish, designating the positions of the teeth during each aligner phase. We can even show each patient the virtual results he or she will see at the end of treatment!

Then, custom aligners are created, and Invisalign patients wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks, depending on the case. During this time, patients will notice that the aligners gradually move their teeth until they reach their prescribed final position.

The total treatment time with Invisalign averages between 5 and 15 months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 10 and 48. For the most efficient treatment time, patients should wear their aligners for 20 - 22 hours every day.

Invisalign has also provided us with this informational video on how treatment works. Of course, at your consultation, Dr. Fagala will explain in detail how Invisalign will work for your individual case.
