Germantown Orthodontist Guest Writes for National Ortho Publication

As our practice continues to grow, we’ve gotten several great opportunities to learn from others and share what we’ve learned with other orthodontic practices throughout the country. In addition to our Germantown location, we also regularly travel to Southaven and Olive Branch, Mississippi to provide orthodontic care for children at Pediatric Dental Group.

I also teach a class called Development of the Occlusion at the University of Tennessee for first-year dental students and have presented to the Ortho residents on occasion. Teaching allows me to share my knowledge with upcoming dental and orthodontic professionals and also helps me stay on top of new trends and changes in orthodontics.

Last month we traveled to Nashville for a 3M Unitek conference and were able to visit the practice of leading cosmetic orthodontist Dr. David Kemp (the doctor who did braces on Carrie Underwood). I was even able to experience a little role reversal by getting in the dental chair and allowing Dr. Kemp’s assistants to test their newest high-tech intraoral scanner. The era of “impressionless” orthodontics is upon us, and I’m sure that news makes a lot of patients happy!

Continuing Education

Learning from others and continuing education is very important in the orthodontic community and affects how we practice and what kind of service we provide to our patients. I was fortunate to attend the AAO Winter Meeting on Early Orthodontic Treatment and the Emerging Leaders Conference in Miami, Florida this February. My wife and I also attended the AAO Annual Session in San Francisco just last month. I was able to attend several classes and exchange ideas with colleagues with the goal of becoming a better and more informed orthodontist in the process. And, as random as I’m sure it seemed to the Comeback Kid himself, I even got to meet 4-Time Super Bowl Champion Joe Montana!

The Pro Ortho

Recently I was honored to be selected to The Progressive Orthodontist Magazine Advisory Board, where I will be able to lend my voice and advice to the magazine’s national orthodontic audience. My role on the Advisory Board is focused on social media, so I was featured in their latest issue, writing about our Germantown office’s Facebook page. We have created a unique space online where our Saddle Creek Ortho community can ask questions, receive answers, and interact with our office.

The Progressive Orthodontist Magazine is a quarterly publication that is distributed to a worldwide audience of orthodontists and orthodontic residents. It includes several topics that offer help and advice to orthodontic specialists for their practice, with the ultimate goal of providing the best care and customer experience possible.

The article I wrote focused on the best ways to use Facebook to tell your orthodontic practice story.

Throughout the article, we talk about how grateful we are to have a diverse set of patients, all with compelling stories of their own. One of my favorite parts of our practice is getting to know our patients and sharing their braces journey while they’re in our care, whether it’s cheering them on during soccer season or watching them finish college and land their dream career. We also love seeing our patients’ excitement with their care when they share their journey on their own personal Facebook or Instagram pages, and LOVE seeing those #BracesOff pictures. (Not sure what that’s about? Check out our video by clicking the picture below! We just hit 70,000 views on YouTube!)

In addition to the Progressive Ortho article, Saddle Creek Orthodontics will also be featured in an American Association of Orthodontists Newsletter, another industry publication. This article highlights the world of social media as it relates to practice management and offers solid advice to new orthodontic practices.

With all that said, we are so grateful that we have a great community of parents, patients, and colleagues who make what we do so fun! Thank you for all you do!
