Invisalign - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Invisalign Memphis | Saddle Creek Orthodontics | how does Invisalign workIs Invisalign as effective as traditional metal braces? Yes, Invisalign is just a different method for straightening teeth. Invisalign has been the orthodontic treatment of choice for over three million patients.

  • How do I know if Invisalign is right for me? Occasionally a case will be better treated with traditional metal braces, but most patients are good candidates for Invisalign. Drawing on his extensive experience with both Invisalign and traditional braces, Dr. Fagala will provide with you a more specific recommendation following an analysis of your individual orthodontic needs during a free consultation.

  • How long does Invisalign treatment take? The length of Invisalign treatment depends on the severity of each case and can only be determined by Dr. Fagala; however, most Invisalign cases are completed between 9 to 15 months, with some simple cases wrapping up in under 6 months.

  • What material are the aligners made of? Are they comfortable? Invisalign retainers are made from a patented, lightweight, BPA-free plastic material that is designed to fit precisely in the patient's mouth. This wafer thin medical material is completely clear and effectively invisible. Although there may be occasional discomfort due to the snug fit of starting with a new set of aligners, patients don't have to worry about the more regular irritation and inconvenience of metal braces.

  • How long has Invisalign been available? Invisalign has been available to adults since 1998, and Invisalign Teen was introduced in the summer of 2008.

  • What types of cases can Invisalign treat? Invisalign has been used to treat a wide array of malocclusions from very simple to severe, including crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, deep bite, open bite, midline shift, and crossbite. The best way to answer this question is by being evaluated by an Orthodontic Specialist like Dr. Fagala.

Invisalign Teen - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Invisalign Memphis | Saddle Creek Ortho | Invisalign TeenWhat is the difference between Invisalign and Invisalign Teen? Although treatment benefits and the underlying technology are the same, Invisalign Teen was developed with leading orthodontists to meet the unique clinical and social needs of teenagers. Some of the new features, found only on the teen product, include blue Compliance Indicators that are designed to gradually fade as the patient wears each aligner, eruption tabs that accommodate the growth of the second molars in young adults, and other specific features that address clinical needs common to teen patients.

  • How do I know my teen is wearing their aligner like they're supposed to? Patient compliance is key to success with Invisalign. Invisalign recommends aligners be worn 20 to 22 hours a day for effective treatment. With the Invisalign teen product, a new feature was added called a Compliance Indicator (also known as "the blue dot"). As the teen wears the aligner, the dot is designed to fade from blue to clear. This enables the teen, the parent, and the doctor to have a visual cue of approximate duration of wear.

  • What happens if my teen loses their aligners? Invisalign understands that teens have a tendency to lose track of their aligners at sports practices, sleepovers, or in the cafeteria when they empty their lunch trays (accidentally throwing them away with their lunch). For teen patients, Invisalign provides up to six individual replacement aligners. If an aligner is lost or broken, Dr. Fagala will ask your teen to wear their last set of aligners until their replacement aligners arrive (typically within one week).

  • When is a teen eligible for Invisalign Teen? Invisalign Teen is designed for patients who have lost all of their baby teeth and have second molars at least partially erupted (growing in). This includes most teens. We recommend that parents schedule a free consultation to see if their son or daughter is a good candidate for Invisalign teen.
